A large vaulted kitchen addition off the rear of a home requires careful integration with the existing architecture. Our intention was to nestle the new volume between the existing deck footprint and the new covered basement stair.

What Drove the Design

Existing geometries, lot setbacks, deck integration, interior program and desired aesthetic.

The interior and exterior architecture are in constant conversation. Like any good relationship, they push and pull, each one making the other better. The result is a home that feels considered from every angle.

Melrose, MA Home Addition & Interior Renovation

Project Impact: The original brief called for a guest bedroom addition off the rear of the home. That location, with its grade level access and unobstructed western exposure, wanted to be something more. Relocating the kitchen here created a vaulted, light-filled space that the family lives in every day.
